Scout was born in WilderWood. His father told him the story many times while he was growing up, to explain why he still searched for Scout’s mother.

…They told her that her baby would be sold. They marched us off the ship and shoved us toward a crowded shack. I took her hand and we ran and ran. We evaded them for days and you were born. I left her in the back of a cave with you. I had to. We needed food. When I came back with a rabbit, you were carefully wrapped in her paper gown, and hidden in the dark, miraculously quiet. She was gone.
